ALL ABOUT US:

George L. Douglas, our first commander hitch hiked from Arkansas to Washington, D.C. to obtain our charter.  VFW Post 1316 received its Congressional Charter in May 1936.  This year we celebrate not only the legacy of our 85th year, but the fact that we are still standing. We are an African American post, with 100% of our members as War Veterans.

VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) of the United States is a nonprofit veteran service organization composed of eligible veterans and military service members of the active, guard, and service forces. VFW mission statement and vision statement push for justice for the nation’s veterans, service members, and military families on an array of issues and continue to be the voice of veterans everywhere.

On the other hand, the VFW vision statement indicates the assurance that veterans are respected for their service and to get the benefits that they deserve for the sacrifices that they did for the country. Thus, the combination of the association mission and vision statements create the idea that those who served their country for their patriotism will get support from the national government, most of all they will not be ignored by the lawmakers for they will be rightfully represented and fight for their rights as their duly appointed representatives.

They advocate for justice for the veterans, service members, and military families on an array of issues and continue to be the voice of veterans where ever they may be.  They testify in  Congress, meet with elected officials, and rally the national network of VFW members and patriotic supporters to ensure that lawmakers put veterans first. When those who served the country and those that support them stand together, these veterans cannot be ignored.

Our Mission: To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.

Our Vision: Ensure that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country.
